I love the seasons. When Winter comes to an end, I’m ready for Spring, and Spring nicely transforms into Summer. But to me there’s something special about Autumn. I’m not exactly sure why, but Fall is one of my favorite seasons. There are so many good things that can be said about Fall and of course in recent history one cannot mention Fall without mentioning the ubiquitous blend: pumpkin spice.
There’s a clear divide in the history of pumpkin spice: the time before Pumpkin Spice Lattes (PSL) and the time after PSL. According to Food and Wine, the Starbucks PSL drink first came out in 2003, but they also say the pumpkin spice blend is over 225 years old. But according to the History channel, ‘Pumpkin Spice’ Has Been a Thing for 3,500 Years.
There’s also a clear divide between those who love pumpkin spice and those who abhor the blend and everything that surrounds it. Either way I say, hello Fall. I’m glad you’re here.
I’m also glad for all the vegetarian/vegan events this Fall, specifically this month. We of course have the original event and the mainstay of the plant based community here in Tulsa: the Vegetarian Society of Tulsa Potluck. So, whether you love PSLs, the Fall season or neither, join us this Saturday at the Potluck.
